Submit a Featured Viewpoints Article

Law Street Featured Viewpoints is a series of articles written by expert legal contributors, sharing their unique perspective and analysis of events and trends in the law. If you are interested in submitting an article, please read the guidelines below and fill out the form to the right. Law Street will review all submissions, and does not charge or pay for Viewpoints submissions.

Article Guidelines

Acceptance -- All articles are subject to LSM publication acceptance. Submission and receipt of Article does not Constitute Acceptance.

Topic – Provide lawyerly commentary or analysis on legal news, trends, and developments. Topics should be somewhat germane to Law Street’s subject areas: technology, agriculture, and healthcare.

Length – Approximately 800-1200 words.

Tone - Law Street will not publish materials that are defamatory, harmful, or insulting. Law Street will not publish materials that favor self-promotion at the expense of analysis and commentary. The ideal article should provide rigorous analysis of a recent legal development, and avoid opinion-style articles.

Crosspost – We accept article proposals featuring original content. Please note if your article has already been published or posted online (i.e. your law firm or institution’s website, etc.), we will accept your proposal but might ask for an update or to enhance the article to support its incremental value, for example, to include data from Docket Alarm or Fastcase, or to add additional information not in the original article. Credit will be given to the original source and noted with a link to the original article.

Republication – Law Street will not publish materials that have already been published on another legal news site.

Share - We’ll provide a PDF of the article with Law Street branding upon publication. You are invited and encouraged to share the link and/or PDF of the article to clients, colleagues, and on social media outlets.

Editing Process

Submit your article by emailing us the text of the article in Word format. If you are submitting images, please provide a description or caption and submit in .png or .jpg format. Include a brief (1-2 sentence) bio of the author(s), headshot is optional.

Law Street’s Editor in Chief (editor@lawstreetmedia.com) will review articles for style and tone, to ensure that the article fits our publishing goals, and will get in touch if an article is accepted for publication.

Law Street’s copy editing team will review the article for spelling and style. Law Street generally follows AP Style, with a few modifications for the legal reader. Authors are free to submit a headline as well, although these submissions are not binding on Law Street.

Citations – Legal points and claims should be cited to using Bluebook format. Law Street reserves the right to link citations to corresponding pages in the Fastcase and Docket Alarm research databases. Any such links are free to all users.

The Editor will inform you of the slated publication date and share the final version with you before publication.
