Trump Wants to Expand U.S. Military Presence in Afghanistan

Last night, President Donald Trump revealed his plan for the war in Afghanistan, which will primarily focus on eliminating the threat of terrorism. The war has been going on for 16 years. Toward the end of his term in office, President Obama focused on scaling back the military effort and bringing U.S. soldiers home. Trump is now focused on winning, and said the point is that “we are killing terrorists.” He also said he does not want the U.S. to continue nation-building in foreign countries anymore.

The main points of Trump’s plan are to give the Pentagon the green light to increase troop levels, to remove the restrictions on U.S. troops to attack the Taliban, and ultimately, to find a political solution to the conflict. He also wants to put pressure on Pakistan, which has long been considered a safe haven for terrorists. However, he didn’t specify how many new troops would be sent over, or when. Trump has been a vocal critic of Obama’s policies in Afghanistan, but his new plan is similar to his predecessor in many ways. A lot of people have also pointed out that Trump’s announcement didn’t really offer many specifics.
